The Association of Pet Behaviour Counsellors (APBC) requires that all members practising as animal behaviourists must work solely on veterinary referral.  It is essential that there is a link between the veterinary surgeon and the behaviourist in all cases, not least because of the link between some medical conditions and behavioural symptoms shown by dogs and cats with behaviour problems.  Therefore all behaviour cases require a recent clinical examination and the completion of a veterinary referral form prior to the behavioural consultation.
